The high-side MOSFET switch will turn off during the negative cycle of the input voltage, allowing the inductor current to fall, the low-side MOSFET switch will turn on, and the output voltage will begin to decay. This inductor current will decrease until the output voltage reaches the regulation transition voltage, when the high-side MOSFET switch will again turn on, allowing the inductor current to rise again and the output voltage to stabilize.

The MIC2179YSM also incorporates dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) technology. DVS allows the output voltage to scale dynamically based on the load current, enabling the device to meet the power requirements of the application while at the same time optimizing efficiency. This is done by utilizing the improved current sense circuit of the regulator to detect the output current, and the integrated controller to change the duty cycle and transition voltage to maintain the output voltage. This allows the device to operate more efficiently and reduce current consumption, resulting in a lower overall operating temperature and a longer battery life.
