PMIC - Hot Swap Controllers
The MIC2591B-2YTQ is an advanced Hot Swap controller that can be used from a variety of applications. It is a PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) which connects to a power path controller, and together, these two devices form a complete power management solution for various low current application.
The Hot Swap controller, which is an important part of the PMIC, helps to read and control the power path controller in order to evaluate and regulate the operating conditions of the system. It is typically used in applications where high currents can be drawn for various devices, such as in cell phones, tablets, laptops and other communication equipment, where the power is managed in an efficient and safe manner.
The MIC2591B-2YTQ is an ultra-low current, high-side Hot Swap controller which is designed to optimize the safety and performance of the system while reducing the power consumption. With a quiescent current of just 100nA, it provides outstanding flexibility even in the most challenging designs. It also offers an adjustable overshoot, undervoltage and overvoltage protection schemes, and can be configured to meet the needs of different applications.

Working Principle
The Hot Swap controller operates in a single hot-swap mode with a Fault Blanking feature. In this mode, the hot-swap controller monitors the status of the power path controller in order to evaluate the operating conditions of the system. The hot-swap controller also warns of undervoltage and overvoltage conditions, and provides a programmable overshoot protection. If the power supply voltage is excessive, the controller activates a MOSFET or other electronic device to disconnect the power supply great. The Fault Blanking feature helps eliminate false warnings due to system instabilities and transmission delays.
The MIC2591B-2YTQ also provides adjustable current limit, fault threshold and current share functions. The current limit feature allows a certain amount of current to be drawn from the load without overloading the system, and the fault threshold feature helps to prevent large inrush currents from damaging the system. The current share feature is used to divide the available current into multiple paths, thus allowing for smoother power delivery.
