PMIC (Power-Management Integrated Circuit) LED drivers are designed to control LED brightness and regulate LED power supply. LED drivers are widely used in LED applications such as backlightings, lighting arrays and luminary systems. One of commonly used LED drivers is MIC4812YMME-TR.
Applicaton Field
MIC4812YMME-TR is a wide-input voltage range step-up DC/DC converter which is capable of driving 2 strings of LEDs. It can work stably from 4V to 28V input voltage range and deliver the output up to 40V. It also offers the extremely precise output current accuracy at +/-10%. With its built-in soft start and frequency compensation feature, MIC4812YMME-TR is designed to extend the service life of LEDs. Working Principle
MIC4812YMME-TR is able to regulate LED brightness by setting the output current. It achieves this by employing a Constant-Current Control (CCC) approach. This approach uses a current sensing P-MOSFET and a stainless output bandwidth control to ensure constant current mode operation. As a result, the current through the LED can be regulated precisely.
The MIC4812YMME-TR is able to change the output current through an I2C/SMBus interface. This enables the user to easily adjust the desired current. It also offers the ability to adjust the current through a voltage control. This enables the user to adjust the output current without the need for external control circuitry.
The MIC4812YMME-TR also employs a current-recovery feature. This feature allows the device to recover from a fault condition in which the output current is too low.
