The MIC4832YMM-TR is a programmable ballast controller IC which provides high-efficiency, high-density dimming solutions and helps to maximize energy savings while meeting lamp luminous output requirements.
The MIC4832YMM-TR is a controller IC specifically designed for controlling medium-to-high power fluorescent lighting applications. The IC combines all the functions of a ballast controller into one integrated circuit. The device contains both a dimming option and a dimmable ballast control module to provide smooth system performance for LED and fluorescent lamp applications. It also ensures compatibility with a wide range of dimming protocols by using power and signal expanders.
The IC features a fixed-frequency, variable duty cycle ballast drive circuit with a low power-on reset, a dimmable PWM controller, and a programmable dimmable ballast control interface. The dimmable PWM controller provides fully dimmable solutions. The integrated programmable ballast control interface allows for recognition and control of a wide range of fluorescent ballast types with adjustable frequency, dimming gain, and power factor control. Furthermore, the dimmable ballast controller also has the ability to control up to four lamp loads simultaneously.
The MIC4832YMM-TR works by making adjustments to the lamp power in response to light-level changes which are detected by either a photo-sensor or light sensor. The IC takes the sensed light data from the photo-sensor or light sensor and translates it into a command for the dimming option. When the MIC4832YMM-TR receives the appropriate command, it sends out a signal to the ballast drive circuit which adjusts the ballast output power accordingly. The adjustable ballast output power is then used to dim the lamp. Based on the adjustments made by the ballast controller, the lamp’s brightness can be gradually and smoothly adjusted throughout the desired range.
The MIC4832YMM-TR also offers a built-in PI-controller auto-correction feature which adjusts lamp brightness when deviations occur due to lamp aging or temperature changes. This provides tighter control, improved uniformity, and longer-lasting brightness with optimum power savings. Furthermore, the IC is designed to operate over a wide supply voltage range of 7V to 17V, to ensure a system’s compatibility with a variety of application conditions.
The MIC4832YMM-TR provides a complete solution for high-efficiency, high-density fluorescent lighting applications. It is especially suited for applications that require highly efficient and accurate dimming control, such as office spaces, shopping malls, and residential lighting applications.
