Introduction to MIC4950YFL-TRThe MIC4950YFL-TR is a monolithic integrated circuit (IC) from TI, which is built for performing power supply regulation and voltage control for a wide range of applications. It provides protection against short-circuit, over-current and overtemperature conditions.MIC4950YFL-TR Application Field and Working PrincipleThe MIC4950YFL-TR is designed as a DC-DC switching regulator, in which its switching frequency is set by an internal oscillator having an option of precise frequency-setting. The function of the device is to provide precise regulation of the output voltage given a certain tolerance of the supply voltage and load current. It is designed to handle low-power and high-power voltage regulation applications. It is well suited for distributed power systems due to its high efficiency and fast dynamic response.The working principle of the MIC4950YFL-TR power device is based on that of a switched-mode voltage regulator. It uses a low-power device such as a transistor or diode to regulate the output current from the supply voltage source. The input source charges a storage capacitor and a shunt resistor is placed in series with the diode. The output voltage of the regulator is controlled by the charging and discharging of the storage capacitor.To adjust the output voltage or regulation, the MIC4950YFL-TR has variable resistor networks (VRN) which can be used to modify the internal reference voltage, as well as the charging and discharging of the storage capacitor. When the output voltage is required to be higher than the input voltage, the storage capacitor is being used to store the excess voltage.
