MIC5325-1.5YMT-TR Application Field and Working PrincipleThe MIC5325-1.5YMT-TR (hereafter referred to as the “MIC5325”) is a low dropout (LDO) linear voltage regulator that provides a regulated voltage for a wide range of applications. The device provides 150mA of continuous output current, and is suitable for use in applications such as power management,LED lighting and temperature controllers.The MIC5325 is available in the 6-pin SOT-23 package and features a shutdown input, allowing the device to be disabled when not in use.The MIC5325 is a three-terminal, low dropout linear regulator that operates from an input voltage of 1.4V to 5.5V, providing a regulated output voltage of 1.5V. The regulator has a dropout voltage of only 100mV@150mA, so it can be used in applications where the input voltage is higher than the output voltage. The device is stable with any capacitor greater than 4.7µF and has a fast line/load transient response of 100µs settling time. The MIC5325 is ideal for battery-powered applications, such as mobile phones, PDAs and other portable devices, because of its low power consumption. The device operates at a low quiescent current of only 85µA, which helps to extend battery life. The output of the regulator can be disabled by providing a logic-low signal to the shutdown input. When the SHUTDOWN pin is pulled low, the MIC5325 enters a low-current sleep mode, which further reduces the quiescent current to less than 10µA.The MIC5325 is internally protected against a wide variety of hazardous conditions, including reverse-battery conditions and output over-voltage/current. The device also features current limiting and thermal shutdown circuitry, which can be used in applications where input voltages are constantly changing or where excessive output loads are present.
