What is MIC5399-SMYMX-T5?
MIC5399-SMYMX-T5 is a series of linear voltage regulator integrated circuits (ICs) which are designed for DC/DC applications. They are manufactured by Microchip and provide voltage regulation by controlling the output voltage level of the IC. The MIC5399-SMYMX-T5 series of linear voltage regulators has an input voltage range of 4.5V to 18V and an output voltage range of 1.2V to 12V. These ICs enable higher voltage regulation accuracy than non-linear voltage regulating devices such as resistors. The voltage regulation accuracy with these ICs is approximately +/-1%. The MIC5399-SMYMX-T5 IC consists of two independent voltage regulating elements; an N-channel DMOSFET (Field Effect Transistor) and an operational amplifier to sense the feedback voltage (Figure 1).The N-channel MOSFET is used to monitor the input voltage and regulate the output voltage. This is done by controlling the “on” and “off” states of the MOSFET according to the input voltage. When the input voltage is greater than the desired output voltage, the MOSFET is turned “off” and the output voltage decreases, whereas when the input voltage is lower than the desired output voltage, the MOSFET is turned “on” and the output voltage increases.The operational amplifier senses the feedback voltage from the output of the IC and compares it with the reference voltage. If there is any discrepancy between the two, then the IC adjusts the output voltage and the cycle is repeated. This regulation is essential because it ensures that the IC will maintain a constant output voltage.Conclusion
