MIC68220YML-TR Integrated Circuits (ICs)

The MIC68220YML-TR device is an integrated linear voltage regulator which offers a wide range of features and performance characteristics. The MIC68220YML-TR is a three-terminal adjustable device designed for use as an adjustable low-dropout linear regulator. It is available in a hermetically sealed, space-saving SMT package, making it ideal for mobile applications.

The MIC68220YML-TR voltage regulator consists of an error amplifier with active compensation, enable input, a high voltage pass element and current limiting active circuitry. The enable trigger functions as the master switch to enable/disable the device. It is also used to adjust the current limit of the device and increase its power capability. The voltage control loop dynamically adjusts the output voltage in line with the error amplifier. This results in low output voltage deviations over line and temperature variations. The output voltage range can be adjusted from 0.9V to 30V.

The current limiting circuitry is designed to prevent short-circuit in the event that the output is shorted. It also limits large current transients at the output. The MIC68220YML-TR utilizes internal over temperature protection that operates by shutting off the device if an internal junction temperature of 160°C is exceeded. The input voltage range allows operation from as low as 1.3V to as high as 60V, providing a wide operating voltage range.

The MIC68220YML-TR device features low quiescent current which makes it suitable for battery-powered applications. In Standby mode, the power consumption of the device is minimized by forcing the output to ground. This effectively shuts the device off and reduces the current to just 10µA. In addition, the device operates in a PFM mode with a switching frequency of 4MHz, allowing efficient and noise-free operation in power sensitive applications.
