The MIC861BC5-TR is an instrumentation amplifier (IN) optimized for excellent performance over a wide range of conditions. It offers an easily adjustable gain block and unity gain flexibility, making it ideal for precision signal conditioning in optimal operating conditions. The MIC861BC5-TR is a general purpose single-channel, low-cost IN amplifier that features a wide gain-setting range of up to 50dB, as well as excellent output source/sink current, low distortion, and low offset. The MIC861BC5-TR features two inputs: an inverting input and a non-inverting input. A voltage divider network sets the gain of the amplifier by controlling the feedback resistor ratio. A frequency compensation network (R1 in the schematic of Fig. 2) allows the amplifier to attain maximum gain and stability within the given gain range.

The output amplifier consists of a Class A driver transistor that drives the output MOSFET in Class AB mode. This allows the amplifier to achieve low distortion, even at high output currents. By-pass capacitors connected to V+ and V- ensure the device has excellent common-mode rejection, while a resistor connected to V+ limits the offset voltage to less than 10mV.

The MIC861BC5-TR is designed to operate from dual 5V power supply, but can also be run from a single 5V supply. This makes it suitable for applications where a single supply is preferred. Due to its low power dissipation, this device produces very little heat and can operate from a standard 9V battery.
