The MK5811CMLFT is a temperature compensated crystal oscillator used in clock/timing applications, such as clock generators, PLLs and frequency synthesizers. It is a high-performance device that features excellent temperature stability, frequency accuracy and jitter performance. It has been designed to provide reliable frequency accuracy and jitter performance over a wide temperature range and in high-vibration environments.
The main components of the MK5811CMLFT are a quartz crystal resonator and an integrated circuit (IC) to generate a high-frequency clock signal. The quartz crystal resonator is temperature sensitive and requires proper temperature compensation to maintain accurate frequency over temperature. The MK5811CMLFT integrates an internal temperature compensated oscillator (TCO) circuit to compensate for the temperature shifts in the quartz crystal resonator.
The TCO circuit consists of an analog temperature sensor, a reference oscillator, an analog-to-digital converter, and a digital temperature compensator. The analog temperature sensor measures the ambient temperature and generates an error voltage which is proportional to the ambient temperature. The reference oscillator is used to generate a reference frequency which is independent of the ambient temperature. The analog-to-digital converter converts the error voltage into a digital signal which is then used by the digital temperature compensator to adjust the output frequency of the oscillator in order to maintain a stable and accurate frequency over temperature.
The MK5811CMLFT has variable frequency tuning, enabling the user to adjust the output frequency with varying temperatures. This is done by adjusting the digital temperature compensator which can perform small adjustments in the output frequency in order to maintain a stable frequency over temperature.
In addition to its temperature compensation, the MK5811CMLFT also features a wide range of operating frequencies from 10MHz to 100MHz, high frequency accuracy over temperature, tight frequency stability over temperature, low jitter and good phase noise performance. It provides reliable frequency accuracy and jitter performance, making it an ideal solution for clock/timing applications such as clock generators, PLLs and frequency synthesizers.
