MLS662M040EA1D Working Principle

The MLS662M040EA1D capacitor is an anode-cathode arrangement and consists of a pure aluminum foil as the anode, a cathode foil (usually made of anode foil and a separator), and an electrolyte. The aluminum foil of the anode is the most important layer as it is the conductor of current and so its surface area determines the total capacitance value. The thinner the aluminum foil, the higher the capacitance value.The separator is a porous material which acts as an insulator between the aluminum foil anode and the cathode foil. The electrolyte determines the voltage rating of the device and is usually a mix of ammonium bicarbonate, benzene, and water.In operation, when the device is connected to an power source, an electric field is applied to the electrolyte and causes positive ions to migrate to the anode and negative ions to the cathode.
