MMA6811LKWR2 is a three-axis accelerometer which provides the user an eight-bit digital output measuring acceleration in three orthogonal axes up to ±2G. It is a monolithic MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical System) device that has been developed for use in consumer and hand-held electronics devices such as smartphones and tablets. MMA6811LKWR2 is part of the family of Accelerometers provided by Freescale Semiconductor. These accelerometers are designed to measure acceleration along the three axes of a portable device. The device consists of an array of membrane proof mass capacitors connected to an integrated circuit (IC). When the device is subjected to linear acceleration, the proof mass shifts slightly and changes the capacitance of the membrane proof mass capacitors. This change in capacitance is detected by the IC and is converted to a measurable digital output. The accelerometer has integrated signal conditioning circuitry which includes an eight-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) and programmable output data rate filters. Through the integrated control logic of the IC, users can configure the output data rate and the low pass filter range. This accelerometer provides a digital output which is accessible through an I2C or SPI interface for digital communication.The MMA6811LKWR2 is designed to operate on a supply voltage of 1.8V to 3.6V with a power consumption of 4.3mA. It has a reliable operating temperature range from -40°C to 85°C and is housed in a RoHS compliant, 4-pin LGA package. The device is qualified in accordance with the AEC-Q100 automotive specifications.
