MMA6855ALKGCWR2 - Motion Sensors Accelerometers

MMA6855ALKGCWR2 is a low-power high-performance accelerometer which uses MEMS (micro-electrical-mechanical system) technology, composed of a polysilicon suspended structure, variable capacitance proof mass, as well as integrated signal conditioning circuitry and digital logic circuit.

Working Principle

MMA6855ALKGCWR2 accelerometers are based on MEMS technology. These are devices that use tiny integrated physical components such as MEMS sensors to measure acceleration and detect motion. MMA6855ALKGCWR2 makes use of a single Translational Transducers (TT) heavily damped beam architecture with a resistive rosette strain gauge. When applying a linear acceleration to the TT beam, a force is applied to the proof mass. The proof mass deflects due to this force, which in turn generates a strain in the resistive elements of the rosette strain gage. This strain is proportional to the linear acceleration.The strain of the resistive element is converted to an electrical signal by the rosette strain gage. The electrical signal is amplified using a built-in signal amplifier. After additional signal conditioning processes, such as low-pass filtering and offset cancellation, the signal is then converted to digital format by an analogue to digital converter (ADC). By using several MEMS accelerometers, MMA6855ALKGCWR2 are specifically designed to detect a range of motions. These include:
  • Linear accelerations such as gravity, which produces a constant acceleration
  • Vibrations and/or shocks, which produce a transient acceleration
  • Tilt, rotations and angular velocity, which produce a periodic acceleration
Moreover, MMA6855ALKGCWR2 has many additional features which help users easily measure and detect in a wide range of motion applications. These include suitability for high-temperature operation up to 150°C, an enhanced temperature compensation algorithm, and various power saving modes.
