PMIC – Supervisors, essentially a type of integrated circuit devices, provide embedded systems with the functionality to power management, system monitoring and resetting circuitry. They allow a user to accurately monitor processor system\'s supply voltage, detect a low-voltage condition, reset the system when power is lost or restored, and signal when an over-voltage condition is present. The MN13822SNP PMIC – Supervisors is a general-purpose supervisor IC with a 3.0V to 18V operating voltage. It is designed to monitor single voltage levels to ensure the system remains in a safe state. As a part of the MIP-SNP® family of PMIC – Supervisors, the part number MN13822SNP supports advanced system monitoring, reset and alarm functions as well as a built-in temperature sensing system. For its advanced features, it is mainly used in ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems), Consumer Electronics, Power Management, and Automotive.
With wide voltage (3.0V to 18V) range, the MN13822SNP can monitor different power supply rails used in automotive and industrial applications. It also provides flexible overvoltage protection and reset delay times. The reset output can be programed to actuate either as a direct reset, power-on reset, or adjustable reset pulse. Furthermore, it has a built-in temperature sensing circuit to detect over temperature condition. The device has a power-on reset output, a manual reset input and several independent comparators for voltage and temperature warning and fault indications.
The working principle is simple. A resistor string and monitor comparator input allows a user to program the reset threshold and warn inputs. If the input voltage (VIN) is within the operating range (3V-18V), the voltage supervisors provide a reset signal with a certain delay (can be programmed) depend on the output type. The reset signal is actively deactivated when the voltage (VIN) falls below the reset (threshold) level and the power persists for a certain time, then the reset signal will be outputted again. When the input voltage (VIN) exceeds the overvoltage trip level, it generates an overvoltage alarm signal. In addition, the included temperature monitor will detect when the current environment exceeds normal operating temperature range. When a fault is detected, the voltage-temperature alarm output is activated and the system is kept from entering an unsafe state.
