PMIC - Supervisors enable a wide variety of applications. Among many of these applications is the MN1382NP, which offers a power supervisor solution tailored for consumer electronics and industrial environments. This supervisor is ideal for use in applications such as digital audio, digital home theater systems, digital video, digital TVs, cameras, as well as in industrial automation, machine control, and many other embedded applications.
The MN1382NP is a self-contained power supervisor designed to host a variety of power supply connections, including direct current (DC), alternating current (AC), and battery-based power inputs. Moreover, the MN1382NP can establish a variety of selectable power supply connections. The main features of the MN1382NP are its flexible design, low power consumption, ease of use, and robust protection against voltage drops throughout the power source.
At its core, the MN1382NP features tension gauges and comparators to precisely measure the supply line\'s voltage level. Tension gauges are integrated circuits that detect voltages in relation to the battery-based power supply. On the contrary, comparators compare the input voltage to a reference voltage. When the input voltage drops or raises beyond a certain value, the comparators turn off or on the voltage regulation circuit, respectively.
The voltage regulation circuit is where the MN1382NP\'s active protection features come into play. It utilizes a sense transistor that keeps the power source within acceptable limits. In addition, the MN1382NP can support a variety of over-current while running shutdown procedures. On top of that, the MN1382NP offers standard short circuit protection that automatically shuts off the power supply when the load current exceeds a certain amount.
The MN1382NP\'s memory management allows for both boost and down-regulation of the DC/DC converter. In boost mode, the MN1382NP will try to compensate for any losses that occur when transferring power from the DC/DC converter. On the other hand, in down-regulation mode, the MN1382NP will reduce the current load from the DC/DC converter. This feature can be especially useful when the load demand is too high and could potentially damage the power supply.
The MN1382NP also features an active power management system that supports slow start-up and shut-down. This system features two phases: an active mode and a sleep mode. During the active mode, the voltage regulator turns on and runs until the MN1382NP detects the optimal supply voltage. In the sleep mode, the voltage regulator turns off and waits for the power controller to detect the optimal supply voltage. This feature is advantageous since it allows the power supply to maintain stable and consistent operation.
The MN1382NP includes an I2C interface for communications as well. This interface provides connection to external devices such as a microcontroller or touch pad. Additionally, the I2C interface allows for programming of the regulator\'s power, slew rate, soft start, and other parameters.
