MOC8080W is an optoisolator, transistor, photovoltaic output isolated amplifier developed by Avago Technologies. This device offers excellent electrical isolation of input to output, regulated power supply to the photodiode, resulting in a highly reliable performance. It is suitable for industries requiring isolation of high voltage and high current. The main application field of the MOC8080W includes isolating signals for applications in industrial process control, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), factory automation, and low-voltage AC motor speed control. It is especially suitable for data acquisition applications that need to convert analog signals from sensor or machine activation equipment into digital signals for processing in MCUs or digital logic.The working principle of MOC8080W is based on an infrared light emitting diode (IRED) and a phototransistor pair. In darkness, there will be no conduction between the transistor collector and the emitter. When the IRED emits light, the current between the two terminals of the phototransistor becomes high, consequently allowing the current flow between the transistor collector and the emitter. The signal at the input side of the MOC8080W triggers the IRED output, allowing the IRED to turn on and off with fluctuations of input signals. When the IRED becomes off, conduction between the transistor collector and the emitter stops. The MOC8080W is designed to eliminate complex mechanical relay operation and reduce installation costs. The built-in magnetic amplifier conversion technology increases speed and response time of the device, while its operation only requires a low DC voltage, reducing the burden on power supplies. The small size, good insulation and fast response make it ideal for many large-capacity AC and DC isolation applications.The MOC8080W features excellent electrical isolation between the input and output and is resistant to high voltage up to 5000 Vrms. This device works at a wide temperature range from -20℃ to 85℃ and has current transfer ratios (CTR) above 50%. Moreover, it can work with an input current ranging from 1mA to 50mA.In summary, the MOC8080W optoisolator is an excellent choice when it comes to reliable and isolation amplification.
