Optoisolators – Transistor, Photovoltaic Output play an essential role in many electrical systems, providing isolation between two circuits, allowing control signals to be passed but preventing damaging voltages from passing through components and across wires. In this article, we look at the application field and working principle of the MOC8113M optoisolator – the Transistor, Photovoltaic Output optoisolator from Vishay Sprague.
The MOC8113M is a 600 V optoisolator with an excellent quality, reliable optoisolator with a wide operating temperature range from -40 °C to +105 °C. The MOC8113M optoisolator features a 6-Pin SOP (Small Outline Package) design, which provides high isolation voltage and an extremely low power consumption of just 0.75 mW, making it highly attractive for use in systems requiring isolation and low power consumption. The MOC8113M uses an LED as the light source, which is isolated from the control circuit and so provides superior isolation and safety compared to other optoisolators. Furthermore, the MOC8113M also has an Insulation Capability of 5 KV, making it ideal for use in applications where insulation is required and/or where higher potentials must be isolated.
So, how does an optoisolator work? In its simplest form, an optoisolator is an electronic device that uses a light source (such as an LED) to transfer an electrical signal from one circuit to another without direct electrical contact. The device works by transferring an electrical signal across an isolated path, usually formed by an optically transparent medium. In the case of the MOC8113M, the light source is the LED, which is isolated from the control circuit by an optically transparent medium.
