MP2013GQ-33-Z Voltage Regulator: Application Field and Working Principle
The MP2013GQ-33-Z Voltage Regulator is a Linear, Positive Voltage Regulator designed to provide regulated single output voltage with up to 33V, and it can provide up to 3A of output current. The Voltage Regulator has been designed to provide excellent line and load regulation, while possessing high PSRR, low noise, and low quiescent current in order to maximize efficiency and battery life. Working Principle
The MP2013GQ-33-Z Voltage Regulator operates by controlling the amount of current flowing from the input to the output. This is done by a Voltage Reference and Error Amplification. The Voltage Reference is an internal, stable reference voltage (1.2 V) which controls the output voltage; to set the output voltage, an external resistor is used to form a Voltage Divider with the Voltage Reference. The output voltage is then set to the input voltage multiplied by the Voltage Divider resistor ratio.
The Error Amplification is controlled by an Internal error amplifier which measures the output voltage by comparing it to the Reference voltage. If the output voltage is lower than the Reference voltage, the Error Amplifier amplifies the difference and sends it to the Gate of the pass transistor (which regulates the output current). The bigger the difference, the more current is allowed through the pass transistor, thus increasing the output voltage until it is equal to the Reference voltage. Conversely, if the output voltage is higher than the Reference voltage, the Error Amplifier will limit the current allowed through the pass transistor, thus reducing the output voltage until it is equal to the Reference voltage.
