It is capable of supplying a maximum output current of 30A, offering 1200V blocking voltage. This device is an ideal solution for applications such as: bridge rectified power supply design, power supply with high voltage isolation, or multiple diode configurations such as Schottky diodes and fast recovery rectifiers.The MUR3040WTG contains four independent diodes in one package and has a 50-nanosecond recovery time and a voltage drop of 1.2V at 10A (typical). It is available in either an SO-8 surface mount or a TO-220-US package, offering an improved power dissipation with an extended ambient temperature range. The operating junction temperature range is –55°C to 165°C.

The working principle of the MUR3040WTG is quite simple; it takes alternating current from the electrical source and converts it into direct current. It does this by using the on/off switching effect of PN junctions in such a way that current flows in one direction only. During the positive half cycle, diode D1 is forward biased, allowing current to flow from the anode of D1 to the cathode of D1. By using two diodes in each of these configurations, the current will be blocked in the opposite direction.
