MXL5KP6.5AE3, belonging to the TVS - Diodes family, is a double-direction transient voltage suppression product mainly used in various circuits, such as welding machine, communications, PCs, audio-visual equipment, etc., to protect against the damage caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD), electrical fast transients (EFT) and lightning surge.MXL5KP6.5AE3 adopts advanced semi-conductive phase-change technology, which can absorb transients in both directions quickly and accurately. Besides, its low profile, high reliability, and wide operating temperature range from -55°C to 150°C make it ideal for space-limited applications. MXL5KP6.5AE3 is a 2-line bidirectional low capacitance ESD protection diode capable of withstanding surge voltages up to 5 KV, and provides a very fast response time, typically less than 1 ns. Its small package size, only 5.5 mm x 6.5 mm x 2 mm, helps to make maximum utilization of the PCB layout area, while still providing the necessary high level of ESD protection.The working principle of MXL5KP6.5AE3 lies in the construction of the device. It is made up of two identical transistors, a PNP transistor and an NPN transistor both having their emitters connected together. One of the transistors is connected to the line voltage, and the other is connected to ground which act as the protection points. When a transient voltage surge enters the device through either side, both transistors turn on simultaneously due to the voltage difference, forming a low impedance path for the voltage. This keeps the voltage at a safe level, both protecting the device and allowing it to continue functioning.MXL5KP6.5AE3 can provide reliable protection for ESD, EFT and lightning surges, ranging from 100V-5KV in the sensitive electronic circuits. Its response time, low capacitance and low clamping voltage enable the device to protect the sensitive circuits from the destructive effects of ESD and EFT electrostatic fields caused by changes in temperature, humidity and other atmospheric conditions. Moreover, it has a wide operating temperature range from -55°C to 150°C which allows it to work in a variety of environmental conditions.In conclusion, MXL5KP6.5AE3 is a double-direction transient voltage suppression diode with high performance yet low profile.
