The MXP4KE400A were designed to provide a small bidirectional transient voltage protection solution for data and signal lines in, among others, communication systems, datacom and PC boards, and peripheral units. Utilizing the SIL package technology, the device offers the convenience of low profile design while providing superior performance than traditional SMD packages. Moreover, the device is suitable for a wide variety of applications, including CATV, DSL and Ethernet networks, home networking systems, as well as retail and industrial applications.

The design of the MXP4KE400A is based on the structure of a zener diode. This includes two back-to-back diodes connected in parallel with each other. When a voltage greater than the breakdown voltage of the device is applied, the two diodes in the circuit become forward-biased and the diode current flows through the device. The result is lower device capacitance and higher breakdown voltage. Additionally, this design prevents electrical overstress on the protected circuits.

The working principle of the MXP4KE400A is based on how the device can protect circuits from transient voltage surges. When a surge occurs, the device initiates clamping action that diverts the surge current away from the protected circuit, preventing damage to the components.
