The NBC12439AFAR2 is a clock generator, phase-locked loop (PLL) with integrated frequency synthesizer designed to generate an exact output frequency from the input reference frequency, as well as to adjust the frequency ratio within the device. The PLL consists of a Voltage Controlled Oscillator (VCO) driven by the reference frequency which, when paired with the Phase-Frequency Detector (PFD) and the Charge Pump (CP) forms the core of the phase-locked loop.

The NBC12439AFAR2 outputs a frequency derived from the reference frequency, divided by a programmable divider made up of four independent 10-bit dividers. The reference frequency is fed into the PLL circuit to kick it into lock, after which the frequency is divided and output according to the set divider settings.
