The NBC12439FA is a high-precision and high-performance analog PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) clock generator with integrated voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) and divider. This makes it especially well suited for many communications and clocking applications requiring programmable or otherwise variable frequency.The NBC12439FA offers excellent frequency synthesis accuracy with both low jitter and low phase noise levels. It provides fast acquisition lock time and covers a wide range of popular frequencies such as 16x, 32x, 64x, and 128x frequencies of the reference crystal. This is especially useful for coverage of PAL, NTSC, and ISDB-T digital video broadcasting systems.The NBC12439FA has an output-driven phase locked loop (PLL) that uses a reference frequency. A PLL is used to maintain a constant frequency of the output signal by automatically adjusting the output frequency if there is any variation in the input frequency. The way this happens is that the input frequency is compared to the reference frequency and the difference is used to adjust the phase of the output clock. The PLL takes the difference between the two and adjusts the output clock to make it match the reference. This chip features a voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) that generates the desired output frequency. The oscillator is driven by a phase/frequency detector (PFD). The PFD detects the phase difference between the reference frequency and the output frequency and a voltage is generated that drives the VCO to adjust its frequency accordingly.The NBC12439FA is also equipped with a divider and two 8-bit programmable dividers.
