Working Principle

The main components in the NCP1031AMNTXG are a resistive divider, an error amplifier, a comparator, and a MOSFET switch. The block diagram of the IC is shown in Figure 1.

The resistive divider is used to set the output voltage. The error amplifier then compares the output voltage to the reference voltage, producing a voltage proportional to the difference between the two. If the two voltages are not equal, the blocking MOSFET is either turned off or on, depending on the polarity of the difference. If the voltage at the output is higher than the set voltage, the MOSFET is turned off, thereby reducing the supply voltage. If the output voltage is lower than the set voltage, the MOSFET is turned on and the voltage from the supply is increased.

The Programmable Enable pin is used to control the state of the blocking MOSFET, allowing the user to enable or disable the regulation circuit. The Programmable Under Voltage Lockout (UVLO) feature ensures that the IC is not subjected to a voltage below the specified threshold. If the voltage at the input dips below the UVLO threshold, the MOSFET is turned off and the output voltage is shut down, preventing any damage to the IC.
