On-Board Battery Charging Solution with NCP1851FCCT1G The NCP1851FCCT1G is an on-board single cell Li-Ion/Li-Polymer battery charger, ideal for a wide range of applications including consumer, power tools, toys, industrial and automotive. The NCP1851FCCT1G provides a complete, cost effective solution for charging single-cell Li-Ion or Li-Polymer batteries, reducing the time and complexity for development of the total solution. It can be used in applications such as consumer electronics, portable power tools, automotive, as well as industrial and medical applications. The battery charger highlights temperature monitoring and thermal shut down, soft-start/stop transition profiles, and output over voltage/short circuit protections. The NCP1851FCCT1G provides state-of-charge monitoring with automatic switching between two power supplies. It features 8 LEDs indication and a programmable output current up to 1A with a folded current loop that provides low oscillation. It also has a programmable output voltage of up to 4.2V, which can be configured depending on the battery type. The working principle of the NCP1851FCCT1G involves an AC-DC converter which takes in and converts AC input voltage into a DC output. This DC output is then provided as an input to the DC to DC converter, which converts it into the required input voltage for battery charging. This DC to DC converter then feeds the charger circuit for charging the battery. The charger circuit then regulates and monitors the battery charging process, protecting it from over voltage/short circuit, over current and temperature.
