The NCP3163BUCKEVB is a complete evaluation board for a high current buck converter, targeted for voltage step down. The evaluation board allows designers to better understand the capabilities, features and specifications of the NCP3163 buck controller. This evaluation board contains everything users need for quick evaluation of the host controller, freeing them up to explore DC or AC to DC buck converter solutions.

The NCP3163BUCKEVB is designed with SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply) technology. It is an efficient power conversion system designed for voltage step down. SMPS converters switch energy between the input and output stages rather than using linear regulators. This switching action is more efficient, resulting in higher performance.

The NCP3163BUCKEVB board is a user-friendly board that includes all of the components needed for evaluation. It includes a NCP3163 buck controller, a power LED, a critical output capacitor and resistor, and a dedicated buck converter power inductor. The NCP3163 also requires an external resistor divider network on the output and a pass-through current sense resistor. The evaluation board is designed to be connected to the 12V power source.

The working principle of NCP3163BUCKEVB is based on a buck converter. This type of converter converts a higher voltage to a lower voltage by using an inductor, switch, and high frequency pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller.
