NCP5608EVB is an evaluation board designed by ON Semiconductor to demonstrate the features and capabilities of their NCP5608 LED driver IC. The NCP5608 LED driver is a buck topology LED driver designed for a wide variety of LED applications. It is a highly integrated device which supports a wide output voltage range, multiple operating modes and a multitude of operating features.
The NCP5608 chip is designed to boost, buck and invert logic levels, enabling it to drive LEDs from a wide range of voltage sources. It features a selectable input voltage range of 4-80 V, allowing it to work with a variety of power sources. The chip also has several operating modes, including PWM dimming, constant current, and pulse skipping, allowing the users to precisely control the power output in order to accurately adjust the light output of a lighting system.
NCP5608EVB is 3.2x2.7 mm, 20-lead QFN package. It includes exceptional protection, thermal shutdown and over-voltage protection (OVP). It also offers long-term, highly reliable operation with high switching frequency and low electromagnetic interference (EMI). The board is supplied in an ‘EVB‘ kit with all components included. In addition to the board itself, it comes with one NCP5608 performance board with two switch button boards and one debug board.
The NCP5608EVB evaluation board is an ideal solution for applications that require lighting systems that must provide consistent brightness, color accuracy and high reliability. The low-voltage constant current driver is suitable for applications such as RV and indoor / outdoor lighting, automotive and street lighting, and more. It can provide precision control of LEDs, allowing optimal performance of the system. Additionally, it has a low-profile design, which reduces the space requirements of the board, making it ideal for applications with limited space.
The working principle of the NCP5608 LED driver is based on the buck-boost principle. It consists of two switches connected in a series-parallel combination. Depending on the switching transitions, the output voltage can be set to a constant voltage or a constant current. The input voltage is regulated through a feedback loop, by varying the duty cycle of the switches. The duty cycle of the switches depends on the current in the output circuit, so that the voltage and current are regulated accordingly. Additionally, the board supports up to 8 LEDs in a single device, which allows for a wide range of lighting solutions.
The NCP5608EVB evaluation board has numerous applications in a wide range of lighting systems.
