Working Principle
NCP561SN18T1G consists of an adjustable-bias PNP bipolar transistor with a darlington configuration, a low-noise voltage reference, an error amplifier and a series current limit circuit to protect the device from overloads and short-circuits.
Under normal conditions, the output voltage of NCP561SN18T1G is regulated to a predetermined value by the external resistor connected to the output voltage pin (Vout). This adjustable voltage reference (VREF) is then compared to the voltage feedback pin (FB) to generate an error signal. This error signal is then amplified by the error amplifier and sent to the base of the PNP transistor to adjust the output voltage. In other words, when an error is detected, the output voltage is adjusted by the PNP transistor, which decreases the output voltage until the desired level is reached.
In addition, the device includes a high-current current limit circuit that is activated during overloads or short-circuits. This current limit circuit limits the output current and protects the device from damage. Finally, the series current limit circuit is bypassed when the output current reaches the programmed limit.
