The NCP699SN30T1G provides an effective solution for DC-DC conversion and voltage system regulation needs. It is primarily designed for negative 6 V linear voltage regulation applications, but can also be used for other voltage regulation needs. It is a robust, integrated and efficient single-supply linear regulator that is capable of delivering as much as 150 mA of continuous regulated current.
The output voltage of the regulator remains constant during normal operation, and is adjustable over a wide range (from -1.25 V to -12.0 V). The regulator can also deliver up to 200 mA current in peak load conditions and is thermostatically protected against over-temperature conditions. The NCP699SN30T1G has a low quiescent current of 7 mA and operates minimum voltage dropout up to 0.6 V.
At the heart of regulator is the internal PNP pass device. This device has tight voltage regulation characteristic, low power consumption, fast response time and excellent thermal stability. The internal voltage reference, current limiter together with the output error amplifier form the feedback loop, thereby maintaining the predetermined output voltage level over the operating temperature range.
Input voltage to the NCP699SN30T1G is applied between the VIN and GND pins. These pins are reverse biased and the input voltage must not exceed the absolute maximum ratings for downstream components. An output voltage is selected by driving an external resistor divider network connected between the RIN and ROUT pins. The internal pull-down resistor (RIN) is connected in series with the external resistor divider network and the output voltage is determined by the ratio of these external resistors.
In addition to the voltage regulation loop, the NCP699SN30T1G also contains protection features such as over-temperature protection, output over-voltage protection and current balancing. The over-temperature protection is included to prevent damage to the internal components and ensure safe operation. The output over-voltage protection limits the output voltage of the regulator to the predetermined level.
