The NCV1117DT20RK works on the linear Voltage Regulator (LDO) principle, which allows it to get its output voltage through the adjustment of an internal reference voltage and also using feedback from the output circuits. This allows it to maintain the output voltage within a few millivolts of its expected voltage. The device uses an external resistor and capacitor connected to the FB pin for feedback and a pair of comparators for sensing the voltage at the output and the FB pin. The sensed voltage is trying to match the voltage at the FB pin by controlling the external transistor which in turn adjusts the current.
