The NCV4276DS50G is a linear voltage regulator, often referred to as a low-dropout (LDO) regulator. It is designed for use in a wide range of applications, including power management in portable devices, high-efficiency power conversion, stable backup power supply, point-of-load (POL) voltage regulation, and power supply noise reduction. The regulator also provides a wide variety of helpful features, including very low dropout voltage, low quiescent current, good line and load transient response, thermal protection, and overcurrent protection.

Linear voltage regulators are used to provide a stable output voltage across a broad range of operating conditions, even when the input voltage varies. This is achieved by using an internal voltage reference, a feedback loop, and series resistor to regulate output voltage within close limits. When input voltage is higher than the output, current flows through the series resistor and a proportion of the energy is dissipated as heat. This is known as as a “dropout” voltage, i.e. the smallest input/output voltage difference that can be maintained before the output voltage begins to decrease.

The NCV4276DS50G has a low dropout voltage of 75 mV at 1000 mA and very low quiescent current of only 4 μA. Combined with its wide operating temperature range from -40 to +85 °C, it is perfectly suited for use in high efficiency, portable devices with potentially high power demands. The low quiescent current also helps to ensure that devices using the regulator run efficiently and with minimal power consumption.
