NCV59151MN30TYG is an integrated circuit for linear voltage regulators, which is designed primarily for low voltage regulation in a variety of digital products such as TVs and computers. Working Principle
NCV59151MN30TYG adopts an advanced control loop (ACC) architecture and features low noise, high voltage accuracy, low power-on resistor, stand-by mode, over voltage protection, current limiter, short circuit protection and thermal shutdown. Additionally, this IC combines a MOSFET Gate Drivers, a transconductance PWMto-voltage converter, an error amplifier, and a clock control circuit. In normal operation, the gate driver switches a power MOSFET between ON and OFF according to the output voltage instruction. The transconductance PWM-to-voltage converter (Vout) produces a voltage value that is proportional to a pulse width modulation signal.
In order to provide higher efficiencies, the linear regulator design consists of a PWM controller and an external power MOSFET, where the power MOSFET acts as a switch. With the current limitation feedback loop , the part can safely adjust and drive the power MOSFET to maintain the PWM input signal. The linear regulator helps in maintaining a constant output voltage, while controlling the input/output voltages of the power MOSFET. The output voltage of the power MOSFET is sensed by an internal bandgap reference and then amplified, filtered and compared with a voltage reference or with an adjustable voltage. If the output voltage is higher than the voltage reference, the output voltage signal is fed back to the PWM controller to reduce the duty cycle, thus reducing the power supply directly proportional.
The IC can provide a wide range of output voltage from 0.8V to 15V, with up to 2A of continuous output current. During Shutdown, the IC only draws minimal static current, when the MOSFET is OFF. The parasitic power dissipation is therefore very low, leading to a minimum heat dissipation. This can be especially useful in space constrained applications, such as a laptop computer or a 4 inch flat panel TV.
