Introduction

The NCV8184DTRK is an ultra-low current power management integrated circuit (PMIC) from ON Semiconductor. It is based on an integrated linear regulator that provides up to 18V of output voltage with very low quiescent current in dropout operation. In low dropout operation, the device has tight regulation and high efficiency, making it well suited for low power applications.

Application Field Of NCV8184DTRK

The NCV8184DTRK is designed to provide a regulated output voltage in a variety of applications such as battery powered consumer devices, industrial, medical and automotive systems. Working Principles of NCV8184DTRK

The NCV8184DTRK is based on a linear regulator which works by comparing the output voltage (Vout) to an internal reference voltage (Vref). When the two voltages are equal, the output voltage is regulated. To increase the output voltage, the device turns on more current-carrying MOSFETs (transistors) to supply more current to the output, and when the output voltage is higher than the reference the device turns some of them off, reducing the current to the output. This process is regulated and is repeated to keep Vout at the desired voltage level. The NCV8184DTRK also features a low-dropout (LDO) design, which allows the output voltage to remain regulated at low input voltages, usually at less than 0.2V lower than the Vout level.
