The PCM1604PTR is a special purpose digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converter designed for applications requiring true single-ended operation. The PCM1604PTR is a high precision analog-to-digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) converter. It is designed to provide 16-bit accuracy in both digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital conversion. The ADC is a custom ultra-high-speed converter based on a differential switched capacitor architecture. The digital encoder provides digitally controlled, power-saving gain and offset correction signals to minimize boost and lag errors. The on-chip high-performance DAC provides low output noise.
The PCM1604PTR supports a wide input voltage range, from single-ended ground referenced to differential signals, and features excellent dynamic performance. To improve accuracy and reduce glitches due to charge injection, differential input signals are converted to single-ended signals by an input buffer before they enter the ADC interface. The ADC inputs also support an optional reference input.
The PCM1604PTR works with a three-phase data flow in a standard PCM digital audio interface (PCMDAI). In this way, the PCMDAI enables digital audio conversion to analog audio with low power consumption, low noise and distortion, and high dynamic range. The PCMDAI supports single-ended unbalanced and differential balanced audio connections, providing jitter-free audio when properly connected.
The PCMDAI provides a data interface to both standard digital audio and PCM1604PTR-compatible digital audio media formats, such as CD, DSD, and other formats requiring 16-bit resolution. The PCDAI also provides access to a variety of digital audio formats, such as WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP3, and OGG.
