The PCM1754DBQR is a special purpose data conversion integrated circuit designed for applications that require wide Dynamic Range. It isanalog/digital mixed signal IC which integrates precision analog-to-digital and digital-to-analog converters. The device consists of a 16-bit DAC and 14-bit ADC with an integrated JPEG compression processor.

Working Principle

The PCM1754DBQR implements the operation principle of an analog Digital Converter, which is to convert analog signals into digital signals. The ADC module of the PCM1754DBQR starts the analog-to-digital conversion using the clock inputs that are supplied from the external environment. The analog signal is first converted into a digital representation by the ADC module and this representation is then compressed with a JPEG algorithm by a built-in JPEG compression processor. Finally, the device provides an output of the compressed digital data in binary form.

The DAC module of the PCM1754DBQR starts the digital-to-analog conversion. The DAC module first receives a binary code from the external environment, which represents the digital value of the analog signal that has to be converted. Next, the device performs JPEG decompression using the integrated JPEG decompression processor. After decompression, the digital data is converted into analog signals with the help of the DAC module and the resulting analog output is delivered in analog form.
