The DAC enables the conversion of digital data into analogue format while the DIC is responsible for controlling the audio data input and the octal DAC output.

The PCM1609APT works on the same principle as other PCM converters. It encodes a digital signal in non-return-to-zero (NRZ) data format and outputs it in a parallel format. The PCM1609APT uses a serial data input format which is transferred to a parallel format via an 8-bit shift register. The shift register enables a one to one conversion from serial to parallel.

The PCM1609APT is specially designed for applications that require low power consumption, reduced component count and noise free signals. It features dynamic range of approximately 90 dB and operating temperature range from -55 ⁰C to +125 ⁰C. Its power consumption is also kept very low at 140 mW.
