The PCM1861EVM is an evaluation and demonstration board that is designed to provide an excellent platform for prototyping Digital-to-Analog Converters. It is ultimately an evaluation module of the ultra-low noise 32-bit Stereo Hi-Fi Digital-to-Analog Converter PCM1861, developed by Texas Instruments. It is a complete evaluation system that consists of a high performance USB audio codec PCM1861, fully introduced by TI\'s audio system-on-a-chip (ASoC) series, the latest generation of ASRCs, and additional external components available for evaluation.
The application field of the PCM1861EVM includes smartphone and personal audio systems, Hi-Fi audio systems, home-theatre systems, automotive audio systems, medical testing instruments, and consumer audio equipment. The board is designed to enable audio equipment developers to easily evaluate the performance of the ultra-low noise 32-bit stereo Hi-Fi Digital-to-Analog Converter PCM1861 at the touch of a button.
The PCM1861EVM is an evaluation board developed to support an ideal digital audio interface. Its external components and on-board circuitry are designed to maximize the performance of the PCM1861 chip and create the conditions for robust signal integrity and top-notch audio quality. With regards to the audio devices, the PCM1861EVM is also designed to evaluate the features provided by the audio codec PCM1861, such as the advanced capabilities of sound tuning, type detection, voice control, programmable gain control, and selection of power mode for different use cases.
The working principle of the PCM1861EVM is simple yet efficient. The PCM1861EVM has an ASoC-capable USB audio codec PCM1861 with an up to 192 kHz sampling rate and a signal-to-noise ratio as high as 112 dB. The PCM1861 chip is connected to the on-board input connectors, which are then connected to the external components and the evaluation board\'s input and output lines.
In its simplest use-case, the audio from the input connector is converted to digital data and is sent to the PCM1861. The PCM1861 then performs signal processing on the audio data and outputs the signal to the output lines. This signal is then converted to analog signal and sent to the output connectors.
The PCM1861EVM also has a built-in digital potentiometer with digital gain control and different sound tuning parameters that can be adjusted for panel usability and performance optimization.
