The PGSMAJ15CA E3G television restart and solid-state over voltage protection device is a TVS diode which is utilized in applications ranging from transient voltage protection for low voltage analog and digital circuits to load protection. This device is also used for the protection of barriers and is an ideal choice for industrial, military and automotive applications including cameras, detectors, microprocessors, power transmissions and phone jacks.This device has a wide range of features which include ultra low operating current, high temperature operation, fast response time, low internal capacitance and zero reverse recovery. It is fabricated using a diode, two resistors and two capacitors to provide a very low impedance response during transient voltage events. This ensures that the PGSMAJ15CA E3G responds quickly to over voltage conditions while allowing a relatively high load current for the optimal protection of the load.The working principle of the PGSMAJ15CA E3G is based on a diode\'s tendency to conduct current in one direction while blocking current flow in the reverse direction. This diode is connected between two impedances, typically two resistors, with the junction in between the two. When a transient voltage is applied at the junction, the diode is forward-biased and conducts current, creating a temporary voltage drop across the resistances and reducing the voltage applied to the load. This allows the load to remain below the maximum allowed voltage, protecting it from damage caused by over voltage conditions.The two resistors are the temporary and permanent resistors, with the temporary one for quickly responding to the transient voltage and the permanent one for maintaining the voltage reduction during sustained over voltage conditions. Additionally, two capacitors, bypass and output, are used for controlling the response and recovery of the device respectively.
