PGSMAJ8.5CA E3G is a kind of TVS - diode that is designed for high-speed transient protection applications. It is the latest generation of TVS diodes from Vishay which provides superior performance and protection. The E3G family includes three types of devices: the standard device (PGSMAJ8.5CA), the E3G with an extended lead time (PGSMAJ8.5CE) and the E3G with the highest surge rating (PGSMAJ8.5CH).
PGSMAJ8.5CA E3G is a bi-directional device that offers very low capacitance (0.25 pF) and wide operating voltage range up to 24VDC. The device is rated for 8.5A of peak pulse current with an 8 / 20 μs waveform. It has a low on-state resistance (43 mΩ max) and an impressive power dissipation (14W at 25°C). The package design provides good thermal dissipation, enabling it to safely absorb high surge currents. It also provides excellent ESD protection for both line-to-ground and line-to-line applications.
The working principle of PGSMAJ8.5CA E3G is simple. When the voltage on the device exceeds its breakdown rating, the diode will switch from an open-circuit state to a short-circuit state. This will limit the transient voltage spike to a safe level. When the transient surge is over, the device will switch back to an open-circuit state. In addition, the E3G has an ultra-fast response time (≤ 1.5 ns) which allows it to respond quickly to high-speed transient events.
PGSMAJ8.5CA E3G is widely used in many different applications including computer motherboards, consumer electronics, automobiles, and medical devices. It can also be used for protecting DC motor drives, converters, and power electronics circuits as well.
