PI3106-01-EVAL1 is an evaluation board developed by PI (Productivity, Inc.). This board is an integral part of the power regulator design family, which includes a variety of semiconductor components. These components are designed to regulate, convert, and control the flow of DC and AC power within a single board. As an evaluation board, the PI3106-01-EVAL1 is designed for evaluation of the various power regulator design components, such as AC/DC converters, DC/DC converters, and SMPS (Switch Mode Power Supply). The PI3106-01-EVAL1 evaluation board contains a DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS, meaning that the board is capable of regulating the power levels both from AC and DC voltage sources. Additionally, with its DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS features, the PI3106-01-EVAL1 can also connect to external sources (e.g. a computer, a DC wall socket, etc.). This evaluation board enables users to easily evaluate the performance of the DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS power converter that is part of the board. Furthermore, the performance of external components can also be tested using the evaluation board.The PI3106-01-EVAL1 evaluation board supports high input voltages. It has a maximum input voltage of 420 VDC for the DC/DC input. For the AC/DC input, it can accept a maximum of 460 VAC, which is an ideal input voltage for computer power supplies. It is also equipped with a signal conditioning circuit which can help detect errors in the voltage and current levels of the external sources and display it clearly for the user. Additionally, the PI3106-01-EVAL1 has a two-stage switching element that can provide outputs of up to 28A.The PI3106-01-EVAL1 works on the principle of a DC-DC or an AC-DC converter. DC-DC converts an input voltage into a different output voltage through the use of power components such as resistors and switches. AC-DC converters, on the other hand, convert an alternating current into direct current by using the controller ICs provided with the PI3106-01-EVAL1 evaluation board. This is done by using the controller ICs to detect the varying AC input and controlling the power switches to convert the alternating current into direct current. This allows the power components such as LEDs and other electrical appliances to be used safely. The PI3106-01-EVAL1 is also equipped with a protection and monitoring circuit which ensures that the user is kept safe when evaluating different components of the power converter. This circuit consists of a set of over-current and over-voltage protection components as well as a monitor circuit. These mechanisms help protect the user from any short circuits or overloads. It also provides the user with feedback from the system to ensure that the components within the power converter are functioning correctly.
