It is composed of two sections – an Oscillator and a Phase-Locked Loop (PLL). The Oscillator generates a signal with a set frequency, which is then input into the PLL. The PLL takes the signal and adjusts the frequency so that it is at the desired frequency. By adjusting the phase-locked loop’s parameters, the frequency can be programmed to any desired value. The phase-locked loop (PLL) is composed of a Voltage-Controlled Oscillator (VCO), a phase detector, and a low-pass filter. The voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) is a circuit that produces a signal at a frequency that is dependent on a control voltage. A phase detector compares the incoming signal’s phase to the VCO’s output phase, and produces a signal that is proportional to the difference of the two. This signals is then input into the low-pass filter, which smooths the signal and reduces the jitter or noise in the output frequency.In addition, the PI6CX220EBDEDR features advanced features such as programmable output delay, programmable output level, on-chip clock buffering and high frequency jitter attenuation.
