Introduction

Working Principle

When the diode is forward biased, the positive voltages applied to the anode (A) pushes the electrons, or negative charge carriers, across the depletion region (J), until an equilibrium is reached and the diode conducts current.When the diode is reverse biased, the negative voltage applied to the cathode (K) pushes additional charge carriers away from the cathode and the depletion region width increases. As the voltage increases, the free electrons of the n-type material combine with the holes of the p-type material and form additional depletion region barriers. As the voltage is increased further, these barriers will break down and allow current to flow. This is known as the breakdown voltage or zener voltage. The PLZ12A-G3/H diode has a zener voltage of 12 V.
