DC DC Converters: PT4827C Application Field and Working Principle

DC DC Converters—PT4827C is an integrated DC-DC converter module. It is a highly efficient, low temperature, single-in-double-out switch mode built-in. It has a wide input voltage range, up to 20V; in combination with the fast-recovery Schottky diodes, the maximum output current is up to 15A. This module is suitable for a wide variety of applications such as USB charging, LED lighting, and DC power distribution.

Product Specification of PT4827C
The PT4827C DC-DC converter module employs a synchronous rectification technology, providing high efficiency and fast responses. It has an input voltage range of 4.5V to 20V and a constant voltage/current output of 5V or 3.3V with an accuracy of ±2%. Structure of PT4827C
The module is composed of a power switch circuit, synchronous rectification circuit, control circuit, and filter circuit. Working Principle of PT4827C
The working principle of PT4827C is based on the pulse width modulation (PWM) DC-DC Converter. The input voltage is compared to the reference voltage generated by the error amplifier and op-amp. The difference between input and reference voltage signals is then sent to the comparator. The comparator will generate a signal which will be used to drive the high-side mosfet switching on or off. The rising edge of the gate signal will turn on the high-side mosfet, initiating the inductor current flow. Current will continue to flow until the output voltage (which is being fed back to the error amplifier) is equal to the reference voltage. When the output voltage matches the reference voltage, the gate signal will turn off the high-side mosfet, terminating the inductor current. The Schottky diode will then conduct the inductor current to the VOut and the output voltage can maintain the original reference voltage. The inductor current is then reset and the process repeats itself to achieve continuous output with desired voltage.
