PT7A7535WEX is a single-chip System Supervisor solution created by Texas Instruments’. It provides a cost and power effective solution for multiple power management requirements in CPU-based and Computer-on-Module (COM) applications. This part provides multiple reset signals, a Power-On-Reset, manual reset and a watchdog reset with selectable time-out and reset assertion levels, various voltage supply sequences for sequencing modules with different voltages, and four general purpose open drain Outputs that could be used for status indication or to control external systems, such as powering up hard disks and cooling fans.
Connected to VDD_5V from the ATX power supply, the PT7A7535WEX device monitors power supply and system hardware activity through several pins. It includes three power good (PG) comparators with an integrated Schmitt-trigger, which monitor VDD_3V3, VDD_2V5 and VDD_1V8. With the help of these pins and the internally configured input buffers, the PT7A7535WEX then asserts reset signals appropriately.
Additionally, the PT7A7535WEX also features two manual reset inputs, whichaccepts a logic high or low at any input, thus ensuring a consistent resetcondition across systems that may be using various reset circuits. With PT7A7535WEX, the user can also configure a variety of reset timeouts for every individual voltage line; this is especially useful if the system being developed uses a mix of voltage-dependent hardware.
The PT7A7535WEX also communicates with the system processor via a Watchdog timer with a programmable timeout. The output from the watchdog can be programmed to be an active low or active high with a trip time ranging from 125ms to 128s. With the watchdog enabled, the PT7A7535WEX starts counting any time it receives an active clock irrespective of its state i.e., either it may be in reset state or in active state.
The PT7A7535WEX further includes four open drain outputs to further improve the system’s flexibility. These outputs can be used to control external circuits in order to generate several sequences and sequences length. This enables the indication of several events, such as power up, system reset and fan control.
Overall, the PT7A7535WEX is a highly integrated, low-cost device, based on an open and robust architecture that is suitable for rugged applications, such as industrial and commercial applications. By combining a single-chip architecture with reset, power supply monitoring, power sequencing and general purpose outputs, the PT7A7535WEX provides a total system management solution for CPU-based and COM applications.
