Thyristors are solid-state semiconductor devices composed of four layers of alternating n-type and p-type material. TRIACs (Triode for Alternating Current) are a form of thyristor which can be triggered in either a forward or reverse direction and can conduct in both directions. The Q2006LT is a sensitive gate silicon controlled rectifier, a type of TRIAC, and is suitable for applications requiring compact dimensions and high sensitivity.
Application field
The Q2006LT is designed for zero-crossing triggering with a low power gate current and is applicable to a variety of functions including AC motor control and lighting control. Working principle
When compared to other types of thyristors, TRIACs have the greatest gate sensitivity, enabling them to be activated with a small current pulse. The TRIAC is activated when a positive trigger pulse is applied to its gate terminal. This causes the TRIAC to begin conducting current between its main terminals, allowing AC current to flow freely in both directions in synchrony with the AC waveform. The Q2006LT has a very low gate current trigger value, making it ideal for applications where space is at a premium.
The operation of the Q2006LT can be divided into four states. In the first state the device is non-conducting and any unsuppressed voltage present is below the peak gate voltage. In the second state the gate current is rising, causing a peak gate voltage to be reached and causing conduction to commence. In the third state the conduction is interrupted, usually caused by the voltage across the device exceeding the maximum rating. The fourth state is the restoration of the device back to non-conducting.
