As a result, a forward current flows from MT1 to MT2 and the transistor remains in the on state, allowing the current to flow from MT1 to MT2.

The triac will remain in the on state until the gate voltage is removed. The triac will automatically turn off when the current drops below a certain level. This current quenching effect is known as the latching current. The TRIAC will remain in the off state until a new trigger pulse is given to the gate terminal G.
