Thyristors are well-known electronic devices that can be used in variety of applications like switching, power control, protection, rectification etc. Within the family of thyristors, TRIAC is one of the most commonly used devices for controlling and regulating electrical power. A TRIAC is a three-terminal electrical device constructed from two antiparallel thyristors joined in the middle. It is a bidirectional current controlling device that makes it suitable for alternating current (AC) power control applications.

The Q6006DH3TP is a brand of a medium-power TRIACs which can switch a maximum of 6A current to control various AC appliances like air conditioners, electronic motor drives, heaters, and lighting fixtures. Working Principle of Q6006DH3TP

Q6006DH3TP is normally in the off state when no control voltage is applied to its gate terminal G, and it is in the on state when the control terminal is active. When a positive voltage is applied to the gate terminal G (with respect to MT1 terminal) of the controllable switch, a low voltage is created at the junction of the Mt1 and MT2 terminals which builds up a current into the gate terminal G sufficiently high to trigger the switch. This triggers the switch and the low voltage received by both of the main terminals MT1 and MT2 is discharged, thus all the paths connected between these two terminals are closed. As a result, a forward current flows from MT1 to MT2 and the transistor remains in the on state, allowing the current to flow from MT1 to MT2.

The triac will remain in the on state until the gate voltage is removed. The triac will automatically turn off when the current drops below a certain level. This current quenching effect is known as the latching current. The TRIAC will remain in the off state until a new trigger pulse is given to the gate terminal G.
