Working Principle

The QK006N5TP is a three–terminal thyristor, which operates as both a semiconductor and a triode. This means that it has two voltage control inputs and one current control input. The voltage control inputs are the main gate and the anode gate. When a positive potential is applied to both the main gate and the anode gate, the device will begin conducting current. This is known as triggering the device. The current control input is the cathode gate, which works similar to the main gate but at a different level. When a negative potential is applied to the cathode gate, the device will cease to conduct current. This is known as turning off the device.

When the device is triggered, the current flow increases exponentially. After the current reaches a certain level, the device will be turned off automatically. This is known as the holding current and is adjusted by the main gate and anode gate. When the current is below the holding current level, the device will not turn off. These are known as leakages, which can cause a decrease in output power.

The QK006N5TP has a peak repetitive off-state voltage of 600V, a trigger gate current of 10mA, a holding current of 8A, and an on-state voltage of 0.9V. It also has a high surge current capacity, which allows it to handle large amounts of current in a short amount of time.
