The quiescent current flow in a TRIAC is controlled by the gate current, which can be generated either by the AC voltage applied between the gate and main terminal (MT) or by a direct current (DC) from the gate to the MT terminal. The gate current triggers the turn-on process of the TRIAC by creating a potential between the gate and MT terminal. This process leads to the formation of a conducting path between the MT terminal and one of the other two terminals (called Anode 1 and Anode 2). This allows for the conduction of current to occur between the Anode 1 and Anode 2 terminals. The turn-on process terminates when the current flow exceeds the maximum allowable current rating of the device. In order to maintain the current conduction, a continuous gate current is required.
