RB068M-60TR Application Field and Working Principle

RB068M-60TR diodes belong to the category of rectifiers and single diodes. A diode is a two-terminal electronic component usually composed of a semiconductor material, which enable current flow in one direction, but not the opposite direction. The RB068M-60TR diodes can be used in a variety of applications; namely, power conversion, power rectification, switching and overvoltage protection.The RB068M-60TR diodes are mainly employed in power supplies as freewheeling diodes and as output rectifiers. The freewheeling diodes are used in power converter inverters and are required to absorb the negative current resulting from inductor discharge. The output rectifiers are used as voltage regulator circuits in which the input voltage fluctuates and needs to be stabilized. They are also utilized for clamping at the output of switching regulators.In voltage regulator applications, the diode connected to the input of the voltage regulator monitors the voltage fluctuation of the input power supply and triggers a response that keeps the output of the regulator at a constant level. The current flow will be in one direction and the electrical properties of the components are such that when a voltage is applied to the diode, majority carriers in the diode will only start to flow when the forward voltage is over the threshold voltage. This threshold voltage is typically around 0.7V for silicon based diodes and 0.3V for germanium diodes.When a voltage is applied to the RB068M-60TR diode, the majority carriers will begin to flow as they are forward biased. The current flows from anode to cathode and the voltage drop across the diode remains relatively constant. This current flow is called forward current, and is the flow direction usable for applications.However, when the applied voltage is reversed, the majority carriers cannot flow and the diode does not let a current flow in the opposite direction. The diode blocks the current and this is called reverse bias. Reverse bias is the only condition in which a high reverse current can flow without internal damage to the device.The RB068M-60TR diodes are useful in a variety of applications due to their ability to redirect the electrical current in a single direction and provide a relatively constant voltage drop. They are employed in power conversion, power rectification, switching and overvoltage protections. Moreover, their working principle is the same as in any other rectifier diode, i.e. when forward biased, the majority carriers begin to flow and the current will flow from anode to cathode, whilst the diode blocks the current when reverse-biased.
