Working Principle

The RT8292AHZSP integrates a high-speed PWM modulator, synchronous rectifier (FETs), gate drivers and a high-efficiency synchronous step-down switching regulator into a single chip. The gate drivers use totem pole outputs to drive the external MOSFETS which, in turn, transfer the power from the input source to the output.The regulator senses the output voltage and PWM modulates the duty cycle of the driving signals in order to maintain an accurate output voltage, while consuming minimal current. Thanks to the synchronous rectification, only one external FET is needed. This, coupled with the integrated current limit circuit and the low loop resistance, ensures high efficiency over a wide range of load current.

The RT8292AHZSP features a wide input voltage range of 3V to 20V, making it suitable for use with a variety of input sources. Moreover, the internal PWM modulator can provide period frequencies up to 800kHz, enabling the use of small external components and helping to reduce solution size.
